I was reflecting on this quote from Trena Reed this morning:
“Broken people produce broken love. Like shattered glass, love is distorted at every angle, twisted into something that no longer resembles the original image. But God restores our shattered, twisted, distorted images of love, revealing love’s true face. He takes our brokenness and makes us whole.”
In our brokenness we’re all capable of doing destructive things to ourselves and others. I’m sure most of us at some point have suffered the consequence of someone else’s emptiness in some way. It makes me so angry that hurting people hurt others, so often without even realising… Especially when there are ways of getting help. When Jesus offers hope and restoration to us.
But as Trena said, our natural human brokenness has, at times, terrible results. When we haven’t received the love we need, love simply becomes distorted and we do damage. I’m so thankful that Jesus is the face of love – and that in a relationship with him there is hope for wrongs to be made right. That we – the abused, the emotionally crippled, the needy – can be made whole in Jesus as we turn our eyes upon him.
Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His Glory and Grace.
It's a God thing...
