I was looking for you in that friendship I thought would last forever. Then one day she just up and left.
I was looking for you in the eyes of the teacher who helped me forage for hidden talent. I never believed I could before I met her.
I was looking for you in church ministry and responsibility. But you showed me it wasn’t about me. Or my plans.
I was looking for you in the quicksand of peer acceptance. You waited patiently while I worked out your approval was better.
I was looking for you in the love of my life. Instead, he drew me closer to your heart first.
I was looking for you since I entered this world, searching, straining for some stroke of meaning. Something that would make sense of this forest of dark and light.
Then you reached in and found me – and showed me how to find you.
I’ve been looking every day, each year a step closer to meeting you. Spending forever in your presence. And not because of anything I’ve done. But because of all you’ve done.
And when I look into your heavenly eyes for the first time, my search will cease.
