I have a need to be known for who I am.
“You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.” (Psalm 139:2)
I have a need to be looked after.
“The Lord will keep you from all harm. He will watch over your life.” (Psalm 121.7)
I have a need to be loved unconditionally and forgiven completely.
“See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are!” (I John 3:1 NLT)
“He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west.” (Psalm 103:12 NLT)
I need help with my thoughts and actions, daily.
“Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.” (Psalm 51:7)
“Because he [or she] loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.” (Psalm 91:14)
I have a need for support from someone bigger than myself.
“Come to me, all who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
I have a need to live a fulfilling life that matters more than the here-and-now.
“For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.”
(Philippians 1:21)
I have a need to know that this life isn’t all there is, because it’s filled with so much pain and loss and devastation.
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain…” (Revelation 21:4)
I have a need to know I’ll never be forgotten or abandoned.
“Be strong. Take courage. Don’t be intimidated. Don’t give them a second thought because God, your God, is striding ahead of you. He’s right there with you. He won’t let you down; he won’t leave you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6 MSG)
As I thank God for the way He answers all my needs, I can also ask Him this:
‘Fill me Jesus – fill all the empty parts of me. I don’t have to have it all worked out to start trusting you. All I need to do is take your hand. You lead the way… and I will follow.’
Thank you that it’s not about what I have to do to impress you, but how great you are, and what you’ve already done for me. All of you is more than enough. Thank you Jesus…
“I have a need to live a ful-filling live that matters more than the here-and-now.” Thanks, I needed that this morning. I had the offer to do more work on something that i enjoy but means zilch for eternity. After some indecision, I decided to look towards eternity. I feel more focused and as if a burden has been lifted. I always enjoy what you write.
I’m so glad it helped in your decision-making – yes, it’s easy to get caught up in the ‘logical’ here-and-now of life.. I’m glad God gave you peace about what to do, with that burden lifted – that’s wonderful!
Wonderful post Ali! It stirred my heart and quieted my soul. Thanks!
