I really enjoyed the Twilight series, and am particularly intrigued by Meyer’s concept of imprinting, where some of the Quillayute werewolves attach themselves to a human being of the opposite sex.
Akin to when a werewolf finds its soulmate, a werewolf and the person they have imprinted on are two parts of the same soul. They belong together and it hurts to be apart. As one reader said on the Yahoo Answers! website: “Imprinting is not always romantic, but it can become so. It’s like finding where you belong…”
The concept is powerful I think – two people, joined, united, inseparable for life.

We’ve just moved into a new house, and one level we are imprinting ourselves on the space. We are uniting with it, pressing into it – and with each day, moulding and creating our own memories there. The first time we use anything there, whether the shower or the back door, we are putting our fingerprints all over it in more than just the obvious ways.
Every time we meet someone we imprint. And no, not in the werewolf sense. But we leave some kind of impression, positive or negative. And the deeper that relationship goes, the greater the impact it has.
In falling in love with my now-husband Michael I felt a powerful exchange occur. He transitioned from ‘boyfriend’ to ‘first love’, and the feelings I had in this moment were both terrifying and wonderful.
What is also wonderful to me is that God’s fingerprints are all over my life. He imprinted himself on me when I was just the beginning of a thought in my parents’ heads. He was planning me out – what I would look like, experience and become. Made in his image, I have facets of his personality stamped all over me, as do you. And when I chose to hand my life over to him, it was the most peaceful, life-giving imprinting process I could imagine. And he is still impacting me as I let him work out his will in my life. This is who I want to be most intimately joined with. Who I want to speak into my life the loudest. Because when I allow him to gently work on me, I am more likely to impact the world for good. I am in his slipstream, a branch of his vine, forever joined, linked and grafted in to his tremendous love and ultimate purpose. And the closer I get to him and his heart, the better life becomes.
“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit…”
