I opened The Message today to discover these words, paraphrasing Psalm 90:
“God, it seems you’ve been our home forever; long before the mountains were born. Long before you brought Earth itself to birth, from ‘once upon a time’ to ‘kingdom come’ – you are God.”
When we’re caught up in the drama of our lives – the issues that keep resurfacing and the challenges we face in the everyday, we need to be reminded that God is God – unchangeable, unshakeable, since before the world began. He has been our home forever…
I love this image so much. Home is not the four walls of my current house… it is HIM. When I come to Him, I lie down to rest in the safest place I’ll ever know.
The next chapter, Psalm 91, states:
“You who sit down in the High God’s presence,
spend the night in Shaddai’s shadow,
Say this: “God, you’re my refuge.
I trust in you and I’m safe!”
That’s right—he rescues you from hidden traps,
shields you from deadly hazards.
His huge outstretched arms protect you—
under them you’re perfectly safe.”
Safe, safe, safe… For many of us there is such power in these words. Whatever you’ve been through today – whatever you’re facing tomorrow… you are perfectly safe with Him. At home in His love. Sheltered by Shaddai’s shadow. Hidden in his ‘huge, outstretched arms’.
You are His, and He is your home.
