Have you ever been moved by a small act of kindness?

When I look back on my life, I’ve been much less impressed by the grand, showy gestures than the seemingly minor acts of service and compassion that reveal a person’s heart for me.

“No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted,” wrote Aesop in The Lion and the Mouse (620 BC).

When we’re tempted to think we’re ‘not doing enough’ for others, let’s remember the impact the little things can make. That gesture, that touch, that warm smile or those few words of love and genuine encouragement are never wasted on those whose hearts are yearning for refreshment and hope… Let’s devote ourselves to the ‘moments’ that make a difference, drawing others to the deeply compassionate heart of God.

As Mother Teresa said:

“We can do no great things, only small things with great love.”

“That gesture, that touch, that warm smile or those few words of love and genuine encouragement are never wasted on those whose hearts are yearning for refreshment and hope…” I always think of this when I talk to one of my highschool students, knowing that (during the teenage years) they feel misunderstood most of the time and even unloved, so a random act of kindness, an extra minute or two to listen to them is important… Beautiful post, lovely quotes…read you soon, Alexandra

Thanks Alexandra – yes, I can imagine that small gestures rather than lengthy speeches would impact teenagers in particular… Thanks for dropping by – and keep on showing that awesome love and compassion to the people God brings into your life.

So true! Even though we may not get thanks or reward for those small acts of kindness, our Father sees them; and our heavenly reward will be greater than any praise we can possibly receive on earth. Awesome post, God bless!

I think you’ve been in my heart lately, as I feel I’m failing so many . ..not doing enough. Thank you , sweet Ali, for encouraging me today, to do the little things, the things I can do each day. God bless you greatly!

It is astounding how we forget that making someone smile is also a small kind act. It can mean the difference between that person having a horrible day or looking forward to facing the day.

Absolutely Anissa… The little things absolutely count. Thanks so much for dropping by and encouraging me (another kind of gesture which means a lot!)

Anytime. We are all in this world together, and need to be there for one another, even online.

Sometimes the big things seem insincere. The small acts get me all the time. It can be as little as someone letting me in front of them in the grocery line because they see I only have two items (or me doing the same for the person behind me) – but it makes a difference.

Yes, those things speak all the more loudly don’t they. God can use all kinds of gestures to impact people, for sure. Thanks so much for dropping by to read, Janna.
