Where’s my head at?

“Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.” (Romans 8:5)

Dear God,

In these verses you challenge me to consider where my head’s at… what my mind is ‘set on’.

My thoughts reflect so much of where my heart is, and they aren’t always focused on you – your majesty, your power, your love…

So often I’m satisfied by less than you, Lord.

You are the source of all good things, yet I often forget this.

May I recognize that you offer the kind of pleasure and purpose the world simply cannot.

Holy Spirit, I want to desire what you desire instead of what the flesh – the natural self – so often craves.

And thank you that, as I surrender to the Spirit and delight in you, you will give me the true desires of my heart (Psalm 37:4).

In Jesus’ name,

Amen

    Sometimes we have to go round and round the world, feeding our flesh, before we can come hungry to the Father’s table and be fully satisfied by the banquet He offers us…

    Wow, Ali this is good–where is my head at? Seems I’m zipping around in my head too much of the time, but praise God, Jesus just keeps running after me in faithful pursuit–He knows I’m like a 3-year old who will suddenly fall down in a puddle of tears, and then He’ll gather me up in His arms. We can never get too far separated from Him–His love is too quick for our little legs. God bless you BIG–love, sis Caddo

      I love the imagery you use here – and I can relate, as I have my share of tantrums and make impulse-driven decisions all the time! So thankful for the faithfulness and sovereignty of our ever-loving, ever-patient Father 🙂

    This scripture is a great reminder to monitor ourselves. It is so easy to get wrapped up in worldly things that please us now, rather than looking to Him to satisfy our needs.

    Amen. So very true and real in our lives. To me the proverbial double edged sword of being caught up in being in this world of both flesh and spirit; the dichotomy of life here. A true battle ground between the seen and unseen; a test. This; the proving ground where we are given all the opportunities and rope we need to pick and choose as you mention where our hearts lie.
    “There is not a just person, not even one,” Romans 3:10
    Therefore this next verse is most critical in aligning with God and what you are saying here.
    “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6

    I forgot to add one other thing I was contemplating on saying in regard to this point I made, “caught up in being in this world of both flesh and spirit; the dichotomy of life here. A true battle ground between the seen and unseen; a test.”, all this is overcome by our complete “humility” to Him our Lord and Savior! To me the true answer is in our individual hearts.
