“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever.”
This verse from 1 Chronicles 16 reminds us to give thanks. Because God is good. And his love endures forever.
(Wow, that was a hard one to unpack!)
But seriously, how amazing are these words? How true it is that no matter what is going on for us, we can rest in the knowledge that God is good.
Our situation may be far from good or hope-filled – but HE is good, and his goodness shines like a bright flame in a dark room.
And this verse calls us to give thanks for that… To offer gratitude for the fact that even in the midst of your valley, God’s goodness sustains you.
His goodness is a sure thing in an uncertain world.
And one day, all of this mess will be made right.
What a reason to praise him!
The last part of the verse is my favourite. It says: “His love endures forever”.
Human love might run out of steam, but God’s love truly is eternal.
His love for you began before you began, and has no expiry date.
And one day you will see just how immeasurable that love is, when you see Jesus face to face.
I love the part near the end of the book of Revelation, which talks about the new heaven and new earth which awaits those who love God:
“I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.” (Rev. 21:22-23)
One day, we won’t need to go to a church or a temple or any other place in an attempt to encounter God. He will BE the temple.
Nor will we need the sun or moon to give us light.
The light will be GOD, in his amazing glory.
And the lamb – Jesus – will be like a lamp to light our feet.
The darkness will be gone, replaced by the light of God and his son…
I CANNOT WAIT! Â
“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever.”
