Crossing over with hope

The start of a new year often brings us a fresh injection of hope.

Even though our lives usually look very much the same on January 1 as they do on December 31, there’s a kind of ‘crossing over’ that occurs.

We are symbolically farewelling one year, with all its trials and triumphs, and welcoming another in hope.

And for those who love God, their hope is in the same thing it was before – their loving God and his living word…

His word is the book that has the power to move, change, and reveal truth to our forgetful hearts.

God’s book reminds us that he is our ever-present help in times of trouble.

And as we read it, we can reflect on his faithfulness throughout the generations.

We can choose to remember that he was there for us in 2017, and he’ll be there for us in 2018, no matter what it brings.

God, our refuge and shield, is the one unchangeable force in our lives, and our most constant friend, now and always.

And the hope he offers is like nothing else on earth.

What a reason to celebrate!
