Riches stored in secret places

“I will give you hidden treasures, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the LORD, the God of Israel, who summons you by name.” (Isaiah 45:3)

When we are doing the work of God, the battle is real. There are risks and challenges at every turn. There is tragedy, and the darkness can threaten to overwhelm us. But God promises that, in the midst of bleak days, there is treasure to be found. In the seemingly insurmountable challenges of life there is hope – and often a fresh revelation of God for us to hold on to. There is truly nothing like the dark to bring radiance to the light.

Dear, sovereign God…
When we’re caught by the surprise of tragedy… when the shock of a horrible event catches us off-guard… we can be comforted by the fact that there’s treasure to be found in the midst of it. Thank you for who you are, and the way you work.
Your plans are far beyond what I could imagine, and I trust you completely to carry out your perfect will in my life.
Thank you that you summon me by name.
Thank you that our lives are not accidents but essential elements of your eternal plan. Thank you for inviting us into your story… for telling your grand story through us. And thank you dear Jesus for giving us what we need to keep fighting the battle well.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

  1. Sometimes it does feel like the darkness will overwhelm us and we don’t see sense in the tragedy. There is comfort in being reminded there is reason to hope.
