Love is a crazy thing.
It does strange things to you.
And I’m not making this up.
The scientists can back me.
The hormones released which make us feel good about another person are doing a dance.
They’re doing a dance with the hormones which make us behave a bit crazy.
The same regions in our brain that light up when we’re feeling attraction?
These regions also light up when drug addicts take cocaine.
Love is a crazy thing.
And it does crazy things to us.
I remember the first time I had strong feelings for my husband Michael.
We were still just friends. I called him up to say hi, expecting a chat with him.
I was hoping he’d soon be my boyfriend.
But he had to head out to work, so he couldn’t chat at that time. It felt like he was brushing me off.
I called and said hi Michael, and made a bit of a joke about something we’d been chatting about the other day.
He seemed to not notice the joke and replied: Hi Alison, how are you? Actually I’m running out the door so I’ve gotta go…
I was so disappointed and even embarrassed that he didn’t seem to want to talk to me.
I remember over-reacting by throwing my hairbrush across the room.

Thankfully there’s no one on the receiving end of that brush.
Even though I knew he had to rush to work, I still felt upset and a little rejected.
Love can make you do crazy things.
*Thankfully he called me back at lunch and all was forgiven.
In 2 Corinthians 5:13-14, Paul has some things to say about the way we act when we’re crazy in love with God.
Thankfully, it doesn’t involve throwing hairbrushes.
It says:
13 “If we are “out of our mind,” as some say, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you. 14 For Christ’s love compels us…”
He’s referring to the fact that people think he’s out of his mind for continuing to push the gospel message.
Regardless of whether people think he’s sane or has gone nuts, he is sharing the truth with people.
Why? Because he passionately loves God.
It might seem irrational to others, but in God’s economy it makes complete sense.
Does this make sense to you?
Would you continue to share about God, even if people thought you were crazy? (and let’s face it, many probably do!)
Let’s ask God to give us the boldness and sensitivity to share our love for God with others.
