Go on… Release the boat

She slowly and suddenly released the boat from the shore…

This contradictory sentence has been floating around in my head all morning.

I jotted it down to describe the process of letting go, of handing over…

I’m in the process of surrendering some unhealthy ways of thinking which have taken a long time – yet a short time – to release.

Like a boat I’ve sat in for far too long, there are ideas I’ve been far too stubborn about holding onto.

The process of release was slow – yet, when the revelation came, quite abrupt.

But with a flourish, I unhooked the rope, gave the boat a little push – and watched my mind’s fixation fading into the horizon.

The moment was magnificent in its simplicity, profound – yet peaceful.

What boat have you lounged about in for far too long?

Are you ready to set it free from the muddy shore, with God’s help?

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect…” Romans 12:2 (ESV)

  1. I can relate to “slowly and suddenly”. When I struggled with an eating disorder and fought to let it go, it seemed as a long on-going process. But when I did finally drop it at Jesus’ feet it was a suddenality (is that a word?) I cannot explain. But it was a sweet one!

    Thank you for sharing! Blessings!

    1. That’s great that you were able to surrender your eating disorder and its associated struggles to God slowly – yet suddenly. What a victory after what I’m sure was a most difficult battle.

  2. I love this post. My word for the year is surrender and this describes the process perfectly. It often takes a long time for me to surrender mentally but once I reach that point, I act quickly. I love the image you used too.
