Some people tend to think their life is only worth something if they become famous.
Or if they leave a monumental legacy.
And sure – it’s important to consider what we leave behind.
But our impact may in fact be bound up in the small.
Our lives are the culmination of lots and lots of little moments.
Gestures.
Comments.
A touch of the arm.
Kisses.
Hugs.
Gentle questions.
It’s the little things, I think, that make up a life.
Our lives really are just a bunch of infinitesimal moments of impact… both good and bad.
Each of us has the potential to hurt and heal.
To show neglect.
Or mercy.
We have the power to notice the victim.
Or look away.
To make someone’s day brighter.
Or wound them deeply.
Sometimes we get so caught up in our own distress that we fail to see that of others.
And so be changed in the process…
Look around you.
What small impact can you make today?
And how will you be impacted by what you see?
May each of us open our eyes to the hungry, the hurting, the broken, and the burnt-out.
And stop, just for a moment.
Because moments matter.
Moments, indeed, make up a life.
Perfect! (No need for a bigger comment 😉 xxoo
🙂 Thanks Sheila! God bless all your moments today.
Mother Teresa never sought fame. She ultimately became famous because of a lifetime of little acts of service performed through a spirit of humility in an environment of obscurity. When the world finally noticed her unwavering strength of character, she was catapulted into the limelight.
Well said. May we be willing to touch the lives of others as she did. She did small things with great love.
Reblogged this on Dr. Lloyd Stebbins and commented:
THE POWER OF AN AGGREGATION OF LITTLE MOMENTS OF SERVICE TO OTHERS
Well said. I needed to read this today. On my way to a funeral for a dear and special aunt.
Me reading this today is in all of God’s perfect timing.
I’m sorry to hear about your aunt. May you have time to remember and cherish all the moments you had with her…
Quite frankly, this looks like the female version of something I have written (just a compliment, mind you, not a Donald Trump ‘I am going to sue you!” comment). But really- tis grand when someone tells you that you “made their day” because you said something kind, gave them a hug, or just spent a little time with them. I believe that many, in their hurry to be “doing this” or “doing that” really have no concept of how deeply these moments of God-acting-through-us intervals affect the world around us.
Well said! I totally agree that we miss so many moments because we forget how significant the small things are.
