God vs. the world

15Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.16For everything in the world—the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does—comes not from the Father but from the world.17The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.” (I John 2:15-17)

Oh Lord, don’t we learn this the hard way? We go around the world and back, falling in love with all the unhealthiest things – only to remember that true satisfaction comes from our relationship with you. Yes, there are many beautiful things in this world to enjoy – but they are just trimmings on a cake.

You, God, are the beginning and the end, the author and perfecter of my faith. In you there is true, lasting, deep satisfaction – and when this joy is truly discovered, nothing on earth comes close. Intimacy with you is what I crave – walking in your will is where I want to be – and nothing will take me from your arms… I choose you. Again.

  1. I know exactly how that is! Thanks for following my lil blog. I just started in January. I will follow you too! I like your writing style! 🙂

  2. Will and I were reading 1Cor the other night, where it said ‘set your hearts on things above’. This is such a challenge! The other day God made me realise that even if I were to have lots of money to spare and can splurge on things I want, e.g. a new phone, pretty clothes etc, it still wouldn’t be fulfilling. I may get a few days of happiness (or less), but that’s about it. Like you said, only in Him can we get true, lasting, deep satisfaction!

Have you ever heard the song “Enough” by Chris Tomlin? The lyrics helped pull me out from one of the darkest periods in my life… Here is a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EW-toYBiF8o&feature=related

    1. SO true, it’s a challenge for sure to keep our eyes fixed on him, and his sufficiency where there’s so much competing. But the stuff of ‘the world’, beautiful while it may be, is not the whole picture, and temporary, as you say. That’s an awesome song, it says it all. “All of you is more than enough for all of me” – that’s really cool. I’m glad it helped to pull you out of that period of your life x God is amazing.
